ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS AND ITS CONSEQUENCES IN ONITSHA MAIN MARKET ONITSHA, ANAMBRA STATE, NIGERIA
This study is on environmental health problems and its consequences in Onitsha Main Market. Four research questions guided the study. The sample size consists of one thousand (1000) respondent out of the entire population of traders which was selected using simple random sampling.. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. Questionnaire was used for data collection which was analysed using mean scores. Mean value of 2.5 and above was accepted while below 2.5 was rejected. The result of the study showed that poor refuse disposal, inadequate water supply, poor sewage and poor drainage system are environmental health problems in Onitsha Main Market. The researcher recommends among other things that proper sanitation of the market should be carried out regularly to reduce the consequences of the noticed environmental health problems.
