PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS SURROUNDING PRIMARY HEALTH CARE DELIVERY SYSTEM IN ONITSHA SOUTH L.G.A OF ANAMBRA STATE
The focus of the study was to determine the problems and prospects surrounding primary health care delivery system in Onitsha North Local Government Area of Anambra State. Five research questions guided the study. A survey research design was adopted for the study. Questionnaire item containing 25 questions was used to generate response from 250 health personnel and expectant mothers that attend ante-natal clinics in the 18 PHC centres in Onitsha South which is whole population because of the small size of the population. Reliability coefficient of 0.86 was established and the data collected was analysed using statistical mean. The findings of the study revealed that the equipment, doctors and personnel were not sufficient. Also the facilities are not well kept while fund meant for PHC centres are side tracked making patronage to the Primary Health Care Centres poor though nurses are enough. The researcher recommended that there should be community mobilization and advocacy at the grassroots level and workshops, trainings, seminars, radio and television advertisement should be used to create awareness and increase the patronage by the public to PHC centres in Onitsha South Local Government Area.
